Prime Minister Narendra Modi Mauritius Prime Minister Dr. Naveenchandra Ramgulam Arrived at Varanasi on Thursday (11 September 2025) for bilateral talks with. Prime Minister Modi said in joint press conference That India and Mauritius are not just partners, but a family. He said that these are two different nations, but our dreams and destiny are one.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “It was a privilege of attending Mauritius’ National Day celebrations in March. On that occasion we extended our relations to the level of an advanced strategic partnership. Now we made extensive reviews of all aspects of our bilateral cooperation, under which we also exchanged ideas on regional and global issues.
‘India has stood firmly with Mauritius’
The Prime Minister said that Mauritius is an important pillar of India’s ‘Neberhood First’ policy and ‘Vision Ocean’. He said, “We have always supported the full recognition of Mauritius’ sovereignty. India has stood firmly with Mauritius.” He said that being a reliable and primary partner in the development of Mauritius is a matter of pride for India.
Congratulating the people of PM Ramgulam and Mauritius on the conclusion of Chagos agreement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this is a historic victory of Mauritius sovereignty. He said, “We have decided on a special economic package keeping in mind the needs and priorities of Mauritius. It will strengthen infrastructure, create new employment opportunities and strengthen health facilities.”
‘Will work towards trading in local currency’
PM Modi said, “Last year, UPI and RuPay cards started in Mauritius. Now we will work towards enabling business in local currency. India’s IIT Madras and Indian Institute of Plantation Management have reached agreement with the University of Mauritius.
Assuring the Prime Minister of Mauritius, PM Narendra Modi said, “Free, open, secure, stable and rich Indian Ocean is our shared priority. In this context, India is fully committed to the security of Mauritius’s major economic field and strengthening the maritime capacity.” He said that India has always stood as the first respondent and a security provider in the Indian Ocean region.
