Countries around the world are expressing concern about the Venezuelan issue. Many countries including China have strongly condemned America’s action. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday (January 6) said that India’s biggest concern is the security of the Venezuelan people amid the crisis arising out of US military operations in Venezuela and the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
What did Jaishankar say in Luxembourg
Speaking at an event in Luxembourg, S Jaishankar appealed to all parties to sit together and reach a solution for the welfare of the people of Venezuela. He further said that I think we issued a statement yesterday, so I would appeal to you to look at it. The gist of the statement is that we are concerned about these recent developments, but we appeal to all parties concerned to sit down now and find a solution in the interest of the well-being and security of the Venezuelan people, because ultimately that is our concern.
India’s relations with Venezuela
S Jaishankar said that we want to see Venezuela as a country with which we have had very good relations for many years. Therefore, we want that no matter what happens, the people there should remain safe. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were recently arrested by US Forces during an operation in the capital Caracas and have been taken to America. In America, he will be prosecuted for drug smuggling and illegal weapons.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement, ‘Recent developments in Venezuela are extremely worrying. We are monitoring the situation closely. We call on all concerned parties to find peaceful solutions through dialogue to ensure peace and stability. The Indian Embassy in Caracas is in touch with the Indian communities and all possible assistance will be provided.
