India iPhone Export: India has achieved a major achievement in terms of exporting iPhone to America. According to an estimate by research firm Omdia, in the month of April, the US iPhone Export from India has jumped up to 76 percent. About 3 million units have been shipped during this period. That is, in April, US 3 million iPhones were sent from India.
In contrast, the iPhone shipment from China to America has come down by 76 percent to only 900,000 units. This is the first time that India has done better from China in the supply of iPhone in the American market. It is an important milestone in Apple’s global manufacturing strategy.
Iphone made expensive in China
In fact, in the month of April, US President Donald Trump imposed 30 percent tariff on the export of iPhone made in China. Whereas import 10 percent tariff was imposed from other countries including India.
Due to the difference of this 20 percent, the company found it expensive to make an iPhone in China and the company started shifting its manufacturing base here as an alternative. Tata Electronics, Foxconn and Pagtron make iPhones in our country. Focusing on many things like strong supply chains, low labor costs, government schemes, making iPhone in India found more economical.
India may face challenge
Earlier, Apple CEO Tim Cook has also clearly stated that most of the iPhones sold in the US will be made in India during the June quarter. However, experts believe that India’s manufacturing capacity is moving rapidly. It is likely to meet the demand for about 2 crore iPhone every quarter in the US before India is not possible before 2026.
