Limited health care, high rates of anemia and other diseases, and poor sanitation in rural areas in Pakistan reduce development outcomes. Frequent illness in childhood is one of the most common causes of short height.

Child marriage is still more common in Pakistan. This happens more in rural and conservative areas. When girls get married and become mothers before their bodies are fully developed, their own development stops prematurely. India has also had to grapple with this problem. But due to strict laws, increasing education of girls and migration to cities, the rate of early marriage has decreased significantly in many states.
