India and Russia are looking to strengthen several agreements, initiatives and projects to further strengthen ties during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to New Delhi early next month. As part of preparations for the visit, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held extensive talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Monday (November 17).
“This special occasion is all the more important for me as we prepare for President Putin’s visit to India for the 23rd annual summit,” Jaishankar said in his opening speech at the meeting. “Many bilateral agreements, initiatives and projects in various fields are being discussed,” he said. We hope to finalize these in the coming days.

S. Jaishankar said, “These will certainly provide further strength and character to our special and privileged strategic partnership.” Jaishankar also said that India supports recent efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He said, “India supports the recent efforts towards establishing peace. We hope that all parties will move forward constructively towards this goal.
Russian President may visit India around December 5
The Foreign Minister is currently in Moscow for talks with his Russian counterpart Lavrov. His visit is also being considered a part of the preparations for Putin’s visit. The Russian President is expected to visit India around December 5 for the annual summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The summit is expected to yield important results to further strengthen bilateral strategic relations. So far, 22 annual summit meetings have been held alternately between India and Russia.
