Former Indian cricket team captain Mohammad Azharuddin questioned the timing of the cricket match between India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup. India and Pakistan have been placed in the group ‘A’ of T20 tournaments to be held in UAE from 9 to 28 September. According to the program, the league match between the two teams will be played at Dubai International Stadium on 14 September.
Azharuddin said, “In view of the current situation of the country, we should not play this match. Everyone is aware of the problems we are facing.” Azhar mentioned the Pahalgam terror attack, followed by Operation Sindoor of India, and the border tension between the two countries.
Azharuddin insisted that if the sports relationship is to continue, then it should not be selective. He said, “If we have to play, then we should play every game, not just selectively.”
The former cricketer clarified that although this is his own views and the final decision is to be taken by the government and the BCCI. He said, “Finally, the government will decide whether we should play or not. The decision taken by the board, government and BCCI will be final.”
He further said, “We should not move forward until the problem is resolved. We should not make a cricket relationship with Pakistan until political and border tension is reduced.”
Let us know that despite no bilateral cricket match between India and Pakistan since 2012-13, both teams have been clash with each other in ICC and ACC tournaments at neutral places.
The upcoming Asia Cup will be played in the UAE, which will be the hosts of Dubai and Abu Dhabi. However, the official host of this competition is BCCI.
There will be a total of 19 matches in the Asia Cup. India will start its campaign against UAE on 10 September. India’s another match with Pakistan can also be held on 21 September, if these teams move beyond the group stage.
Group A includes India, Pakistan, UAE and Oman, while Group B includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong.
