US President Donald Trump spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on phone on the special occasion of Diwali. PM Modi has thanked President Trump for his Diwali wishes. PM wrote on X that President Trump, thank you for your phone call and warm wishes for Diwali. On this festival of lights, let our two great democracies continue to show a ray of hope to the world and remain united against terrorism in all its forms.

On Wednesday (October 22, 2025), Trump told in the Oval Office of the White House that he had spoken to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on phone. While talking to journalists, Trump said that many important matters related to trade were discussed between India and America. Praising Prime Minister Modi, he said that he is a wonderful person and has become a very good friend of mine with time. We had a very good conversation and mainly discussed business.

Claim made again regarding purchase of Russian oil

Regarding the purchase of oil from Russia, the US President has again claimed that PM Modi has told him that he will not buy more oil from Russia. He has made such claims many times before. However, the Indian Foreign Ministry had completely rejected these claims of Trump. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said that PM Modi and Trump did not talk on phone.

Best wishes to Indian-American citizens

On the occasion of Diwali, Trump has extended warm wishes to all Indian-American citizens and people celebrating the festival around the world. In his statement issued from Washington, he said that today I wish all those Americans who are celebrating Diwali, the festival of lights. Trump described this occasion as a deep spiritual message.
