The Indian team led by Suryakumar Yadav, who easily achieved small goals in the first two matches, would prefer to bat first against Oman in their final group league match of the Asia Cup cricket tournament to be held in Abu Dhabi on Friday and make full use of 20 overs.
The Indian team has already qualified for Super 4 and this is a golden opportunity to give batsmen a chance against Oman before the important match against arch -rivals Pakistan on Sunday. India had earlier achieved small goals against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Pakistan.
Abhishek Sharma has started fast as expected, but Shubman Gill needs to spend some time at the crease. Captain Suryakumar had done well against Pakistan, but he would like Tilak Verma to get some more time to bat.
If India reaches the final, then it will have to play four matches within seven days and in view of this, the team management would also want to give some chance to bat to Hardik Pandya, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dubey and Akshar Patel.
Indian bowling is so strong that if Oman bats first, the match is likely to end quickly as Jatinder Singh -led team will be able to face bowlers like Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakraborty.
Oman’s batting in two matches against Pakistan and UAE was not clearly the best. His condition has been such that in two matches, not a single batsman could cross the personal score of 30.
Hammad Mirza scored 27 runs against Pakistan while Aryan Bisht scored 24 runs against UAE, who was the batsman to score the highest score for his side in these matches.
India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir would not like to use much with his team, except that he can give some rest to Jaspreet Bumrah before Super 4. If he also wants to do so.
