After the India-US trade deal, now the statement of White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt has come. He said that after direct talks between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is going to stop purchasing Russian oil.
Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Tuesday (February 3), Levitt said that New Delhi has committed to stop importing oil from Russia and increase oil purchases from the US. He also said that India can buy oil from Venezuela, which according to him will be beneficial for American workers and industries. Currently Washington is handling Venezuela’s oil trade.

Addressing the media, Levitt said that this agreement was reached after a direct phone call between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi. Leavitt described the agreement as a comprehensive effort to strengthen US economic interests and reduce India’s dependence on Russian energy supplies. Along with energy agreements, Levitt said India has also committed to investing extensively in America.
He claimed that New Delhi is planning to invest about US $ 500 billion in sectors like transport, energy and agriculture. Describing this as a major outcome of the talks, he described it as a significant boost to American infrastructure and manufacturing.
In a separate interview with Fox News, Levitt reiterated these claims and highlighted President Trump’s personal role in securing the agreement. He said that the agreement included commitments related to energy imports, investment and trade access, which would benefit the US economy.
Piyush Goyal’s statement
The White House has hailed the agreement as a major economic success, while Indian officials have focused on domestic security measures. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday that sensitive sectors like agriculture and dairy production have been protected under the agreement. Talking to journalists, he said that PM Modi has been continuously trying to protect the interests of farmers and rural workers.
