British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday (9 September 2025) praised India’s development, considering it ironic. He said that India is on its way to becoming the third largest economy in the world by the year 2028. This statement of the British PM is a slap on the statement of US President Donald Trump, in which he had called the Indian economy a ‘dead economy’.
‘India on its way to becoming the third largest economy’
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that India is on its way to becoming the world’s third largest economy by 2028 and Britain is well placed to become a partner in this journey. He said that the India-UK trade agreement will give Britain an opportunity to increase its leadership in technology, life sciences, renewable energy and other sectors.
He said that both countries are also deepening the UK-India Technology Security Initiative. Starmer, who arrived in Mumbai with a high-level delegation, said he also discussed the Russia-Ukraine conflict with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and both countries adopted a common approach to ending the conflict.
‘Israel-Hamas peace proposal a big achievement’
Starmer described US President Donald Trump’s Israel-Hamas peace proposal as a major achievement and said that this plan will bring relief to the hostages of Gaza, the citizens and the whole world. “We will now work with our partners to ensure that this peace plan is fully implemented and without delay,” he said.
Trump’s dead economy statement deflated
America imposed 50 percent tariff on India for buying Russian oil. When India did not bow down to Trump’s arbitrariness and called America’s decision a unilateral action, Trump got irritated and started making statements on India’s economy. Trump had said, “I don’t care what India does with Russia, but together they can bring down their dead economy further, I don’t care.”
