A big update has come out on the return of all-rounder Washington Sundar before the 2026 T20 World Cup. Sundar was injured during the ODI series against New Zealand. Due to this injury he had to miss the T20 series against New Zealand. According to Times of India, Washington Sundar is almost certain to play in the T20 World Cup, but he may have to miss the first few matches.
Quoting Times of India, a source said that there are still more than 2 weeks left for the World Cup match between India and Pakistan and Sundar is in the race to play that match. The good news is that Sundar’s chances of playing in the World Cup have increased, but the bad news is that he may miss the first 2 matches. A final decision on them can be taken only when there is no possibility of withdrawal.
The source said that Washington Sundar was selected in the World Cup team so that he could create problems for the left-handed batsmen of the opposition teams. It is being told that this is also the reason for Ravi Bishnoi getting a chance in the T20 series against New Zealand. Currently, there are not many options for off-spin bowlers and bowling all-rounders in Team India.
Will Ravi Bishnoi take Sundar’s place?
BCCI included Ravi Bishnoi in Team India as a replacement for Washington Sundar for the T20 series against New Zealand. There is news that Sundar will miss the first 2 matches, but in case Sundar takes more time to get fit, then the door will be open to bring Ravi Bishnoi into the World Cup squad.
India’s squad for T20 World Cup: Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Verma, Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Shivam Dubey, Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakraborty, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel (vice-captain), Washington Sundar, Rinku Singh.
