Indian-American doctor in US was asked, ‘Can men get pregnant’? What answer did you get?

An Indian-American obstetrician and gynecologist and reproductive health consultant on Wednesday (January 14) refused to give a straight and clear answer to the question whether men can also get pregnant. This debate between Senator Josh Hawley and Dr. Nisha Verma took place during the hearing of the Help Committee on Women’s Safety in the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

Testifying before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, Dr. Verma said abortion drugs have been extensively studied and have been used safely for decades. He warned that politically motivated restrictions were causing harm. “Medication abortion has been extensively studied and has been found to be safe and effective in more than 100 studies,” he told MPs. He also said that since their approval in 2000, more than 75 lakh people in America have used these medicines.

What did Senator Hawley ask?
Senator Hawley asked senior advisor Dr. Verma, “Can men get pregnant?” Dr. Nisha Verma: “I don’t know exactly what the purpose of this question is.” Verma, who appeared as a witness on behalf of the Democratic Party, hesitated and said that she cares for patients of many gender identities. Avoiding a direct yes or no answer, she said, “I also care for people who don’t consider themselves women.”

Holly said, “On other websites you are described as an expert. You are a doctor and talk based on scientific evidence. I just want to know based on the evidence, can men get pregnant? It is a yes or no question.” He added, “I’m not doing that. I’m trying to reach an answer. I’m obviously checking your authenticity as a physician and a scientist, can men get pregnant?”

The matter is related to abortion medicines
He further said that you do not even accept the basic truth that biologically men cannot get pregnant. Biologically there is a difference between men and women. I don’t know how we can take your claims of being a science expert seriously. Holly further said that we have come here to talk about women’s safety. Science shows that abortion medications cause adverse health problems in 11 percent of cases.

Dr. Verma said that I am associated with science and I am also here to represent the complex experiences of my patients. I don’t think your polarized language or questions achieve that goal.
