Indian army atags gun system: The Indian Army is going through its modernization. To increase the strength of the army, he is being provided indigenous weapons. The government’s Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has approved the purchase of ATAGS i.e. Advanced Todd Artery Gun System for the Indian Army on Wednesday (March 19). With this, more than 300 cannons will be purchased for the Army’s Artillery Regiment, which will be the most range in the world.
CCS, led by PM Modi, has approved a deal of Rs 7000 crore for the purchase of ATAGS. This gun is completely indigenous. A total of 307 hawitzer cannons are being procured from the indigenous company. The firepower of these cannons is the highest in the world. Apart from this, 327 gun-hang vehicles will also be dealt with weapons to 15 artillery regiments of the army. TOI has quoted sources as saying that this deal is expected to be signed next week.
DRDO has developed Atags
The cannons that will be given to the army have been designed and developed in the country. The Defense Research Development Organization (DRDO) has developed it, while it will be produced by private company Bharat Forge and Tata Advanced Systems. India is now moving forward to private companies in the defense sector, so the production of these 307 cannons has been handed over to both private companies. While Bharat Forge will produce 60 percent of the cannons, Tata Advanced will make 40 percent of the guns.
The world’s most powerful cannon is Atags
India -made Atags are the world’s most range cannon. This cannon can kill enemies up to 48 kilometers away. With this, 3 rounds can be fired in 15 seconds. This cannon can feat 15 rounds of shells in 3 minutes and 60 rounds in 60 minutes in consecutive minutes. Its specialty is that it can be used in every season. Atags were developed in 2013. It has been tested from the desert to the hills, after which it has been selected to include it in the army.
India made plans after Russia-Ukraine War
The Russia-Ukraine War once again felt the need for long-range firepower weapons. That is why the army is slowly moving towards including war materials like Howitzer, Missile, Rocket System. In February, the Ministry of Defense signed contracts of Rs 10,147 crore for pre-fragmented rocket (45 km range) and Area Dinel Museum (37 km) for the indigenous Pinaka Multi-Launch Artillery Rocket System. In December last year, the Ministry of Defense in collaboration with South Korean Hanwha Defense had signed an agreement of Rs 7,629 crore with L&T, under which 100 k-9 Vajra-Tea Traged Gun System was to be purchased. The firepower of Vajra-T ranges from 28 to 38 kilometers.
