It is a matter of pride for India that once again the country’s prestigious educational institutions have been seen shining in the list of top universities of Asia. According to the QS World University Asia Rankings 2025 released on Tuesday, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Delhi, Mumbai, Madras, Kanpur and Kharagpur, as well as the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru and Delhi University (DU) have made it to the top 100 institutions in Asia.
While sharing this information, London-based ranking agency QS said that a total of 7 institutes of India have been included in the top-100, 20 institutes in the top-200 and 66 institutes in the top-500. This achievement reflects the quality, research capacity and global recognition of India’s higher education system.
The growing influence of India’s educational institutions
According to the report, this time the ranking of 36 institutions of India has improved as compared to last year. While 16 institutions remained at their old positions, 105 institutions saw a decline in their ranking. However, despite this, India’s performance is considered to be more stable and better than other Asian countries.
QS said this year’s “expansion” of the rankings was a bit volatile due to greater competition and changing standards, but Indian universities have proven their strength.
IIT Delhi again becomes India’s number 1 institute
Among the IIT institutes of India, IIT Delhi has been declared the best institute of the country for the fifth consecutive year. This time it achieved 59th position at the Asian level.
At the same time, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur and IIT Kharagpur were also included in the top-100 list – which proves that India’s technical institutions are continuously meeting global standards.
India is at the forefront in research and innovation
- QS said in its report that India ranks top in the whole of Asia in terms of the number of PhD holders and research work.
- This means that Indian institutions are progressing rapidly not only in studies but also in research, innovation and technology development.
