The Indian Postal Department has resumed international postal services of all categories to America from Wednesday (October 15). India had temporarily suspended postal services to America in August this year. The Postal Department said that in accordance with the guidelines of US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the duty rate on postal consignments from India to the US has been fixed at 50 percent of the declared value of the goods, which will be applicable under the new tariff rules.
According to the PTI report, the Postal Department said, “International postal services of all categories for America are being restarted from October 15, 2025.” The department said that postal services were temporarily suspended on August 22 after the arrival of Executive Order 14324 of the US administration. He said, ”“The suspension of postal services was necessitated by the new regulatory provisions of the US Government, which include the process of collection and payment of import duties.”
The Department of Posts said that no additional basic or special tariff has been imposed on postal products, which differentiates them from courier or commercial consignments. “This advantageous fee structure significantly reduces the overall cost burden and makes sending goods through post an affordable and competitive logistics option for MSMEs, artisans, small traders and e-commerce exporters,” the statement said.
No additional charges will be taken from customers
Along with this, the Postal Department said that no additional charge will be taken from the customers for payment (DDP) and eligible party services including delivery charges of goods. Apart from this, postal charges will remain applicable as before so that exporters can continue to get cheaper rates and can comply with the new US import rules. According to the statement, this step has been taken with the aim of supporting MSME units and promoting India’s exports.
