Nasscom President on AI Concerns: There is currently an intense debate going on in the IT sector regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI). last year in 2025 Microsoft, Infosys And Google After the layoffs in big tech companies like AI, the apprehension deepened whether AI will completely replace IT jobs in the future. Companies cited increasing investment in AI and future strategic restructuring as the reason behind the layoffs, which has naturally increased the anxiety of employees. Statistics show that from 2025 till now the market value of IT companies has declined by more than 50 billion dollars.
However, industry organizations NASSCOM Rajesh Nambiar, President, considers these apprehensions to be baseless. He says that AI technology will not eliminate services related jobs, but will change the way of working. According to him, the role of IT services will remain as important as ever to implement, manage and meet regulatory requirements of large enterprises and complex technical systems.
Why not to be afraid of AI?
Speaking to Economic Times, Nambiar said that the fear being spread about cloud, automation or AI based tools that they will eliminate traditional IT jobs is completely baseless.
Even though some analysts believe that AI tools such as Anthropic K’s cowork or Palantir Technologies Due to platforms like this, the income of IT services may decline by about 2 percent in the coming years, but Nambiar is confident that the Indian IT industry worth about $ 283 billion will successfully absorb this change.
What did NASSCOM President say?
Industry leadership believes that AI will transform skills rather than eliminate jobs. That is, the challenge is not about the existence of jobs, but about upgrading the skills of the employees and adapting themselves to new technologies.
NASSCOM Chairman Rajesh Nambiar has adopted a balanced and optimistic stance on the concerns being raised regarding H1B visa interviews. He says that Indian IT companies have sufficient local talent and operational capacity in America, so that they can meet the needs of projects and customers there. This means that despite the uncertainties related to visas, there is little possibility of a major negative impact on the functioning of companies.
He indicated that the global delivery model is now more diverse and localized than ever before. Many Indian IT companies have strengthened local hiring and onshore capabilities in the US, resulting in less dependence on H1B visas than before.
It is noteworthy that NASSCOM is preparing its annual strategic review before the ‘Technology and Leadership Forum’ to be held in February. Industry leaders will gather on this platform and important issues like AI, global talent mobility, visa policies and the future direction of the IT sector will be discussed in detail.
