India’s Smriti Mandhana has created the record of scoring the most ODI runs in a calendar year. She achieved this feat in the match against South Africa in the Women’s World Cup. This tournament has not gone well for Mandhana so far, in which she was able to score 8 and 23 runs in the first two matches respectively. Mandhana broke Belinda Clark’s 28-year-old record by scoring 12 runs against South Africa.
Most ODI runs in a calendar year
Till now, the record of scoring most ODI runs in a calendar year was in the name of Australia’s Belinda Clark. Clarke had scored 970 runs in the year 1997. Now Smriti Mandhana has gone ahead of him in this matter. Let us also tell you that till date in the history of women’s ODI cricket, no batsman has been able to touch the figure of 1,000 runs within a year. Mandhana was out after scoring 23 runs in the match against South Africa, taking her number of runs scored in the year 2025 to 982.

Smriti Mandhana nears 5000 ODI runs
Smriti Mandhana is also close to completing 5,000 runs in women’s ODI cricket. She will be only the second Indian female cricketer to do so. Before her, only Mithali Raj was able to do this, who had scored 7805 runs in her ODI career. The world record for scoring most runs in ODI cricket is also in Mithali’s name. Mandhana has scored more than 600 runs in ODI Women’s World Cup history. Mandhana is on the verge of breaking the record of most centuries in ODI cricket. She currently has 13 centuries in her name and is just 2 centuries behind Meg Lanning who has scored 15 centuries.
