Indian pharma companies caught head with Trump’s 100 percent tariff, shocking billions of dollars!

Us pharma tariff: US President Donald Trump has announced to impose 100 percent tariffs on the import of branded and patent drugs since October 1, 2025. Issuing this new decree, Trump said that his aim is to promote the manufacture of domestic drugs in the US and also reduce America’s dependence on foreign imports.

America is one of the largest markets for Indian Forma companies. The two countries have a business of about $ 10 billion in the financial year 2025. Trump has created a stir in the Indian Forma market by adding 100 percent tariff to medicines, adding a new chapter to the tariff war. This will cause problems in export to Indian formma companies. Also, their market cap can also be reduced.

Shares of Forma companies broken

Since Trump’s new order, there has been a stir in the Forma sector of the Indian stock market. The shares of Cipla, Sun Forma and many big pharmaceutical companies are seeing a decline. In early trade, the Nifty Form index opened with a decline of 2.40 percent. Due to this, all 20 stocks were in loss, which has caused a lot of damage to the stock market.

According to Pharma and Healthcare expert Maitri Sheet of Choice Institutional Equites, 100 percent tariffs applied on branded and patent drugs can be challenging for Indian exporters. Indian exports have a 35 percent stake in the US market. Also, America is one of the largest markets for Indian Forma companies.

Which companies will not affect?

Maitri Sheet told that if a company has a factory in the US or has started construction, then in this situation they will be exempted from tariff. He has also told that only tariffs have been imposed on branded drugs, although it can also affect complex generic and important medicines.
