Due to the ongoing tension in the Middle East, an Indigo airline flight going from the Indian capital Delhi to Manchester had to return midway back to Delhi on Monday (March 9, 2026). This decision was taken suddenly at the last moment due to the airspace restrictions imposed in West Asia. This is not a film story, but the reality of those Indigo passengers who were going to go from Delhi to Manchester on Monday (March 9, 2026).
Indigo flight 6E 033 took off from Delhi for Manchester, but due to the sudden closure of airspace over Western Asia, the pilot was left with no option but to return and the flight was diverted back to Delhi. Indigo said in the statement that due to the current situation in the Middle East, many of their flights are already taking long routes, but what happened with 6E 033 happened at the last moment, which was not anticipated.
Indigo flight 6E 033, which was being operated by Norse, had completed its journey of about seven hours, after which it had to turn back. Flight tracking service FlightTrader24 posted a post on social media platform
The journey from Delhi to Manchester takes 11 hours
This aircraft left Delhi for Manchester early in the morning on Monday, which started on this long route for the first time after February 26, 2026. Flight service on this route was suspended for some time, which was recently reinstated. Normally a flight on this long-haul route covers the distance from Delhi to Manchester in about 11 hours, but due to airspace restrictions it had to return midway.
The plane was not in the conflict area, yet had to return
According to flight tracking data, the Indigo airline plane took a U-turn after flying for about 7 hours, even though it had already taken a different route to avoid active conflict areas in West Asia, yet it had to return.
Indigo issued statement regarding U-turn
Regarding the U-turn of the flight, IndiGo spokesperson said in a statement that the airline had to take this decision due to the sudden airspace restrictions imposed at the last moment. He said, ‘The situation in and around the Middle East is constantly changing, due to which some of our flights may have to take a longer route or may have to be diverted. Our flight 6E 033 going from Delhi to Manchester had to return to Delhi due to last minute airspace restrictions due to the current situation in West Asia.
He also said that we are working with the concerned authorities on the possibilities of resuming the journey.
