Fort Stewart Shooting: Five soldiers were injured in the firing incident at Fort Stewart military base in East Georgia, USA. The attack took place in the second armored Brigade Combat Team area of the military base. The army has described it as an attack by an active shooter.

According to information released on Fort Stewart’s official Facebook page, law enforcement agencies have caught the attacker immediately after the firing and now there is no active threat to the campus or surrounding area. The injured have been admitted to the Winning Army Community Hospital after giving primary treatment on the spot. After the incident, the military base was temporarily closed temporarily after 11 am local time.

White House released a statement

The FBI’s Savannah office, along with the Army Criminal Investigation Department (CID), is investigating the case. At the same time, the White House has confirmed that former President Donald Trump has been informed about the incident and the administration is keeping an eye on the situation. Expressing deep grief over the incident, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said, “We are in constant touch with local law enforcement agencies. Marti, our daughters and I am deeply hurt by this tragedy in Fort Stewart.”

At present, no official confirmation has been made regarding the identity of the shooter and the intention of the attack. Security forces have surrounded the entire area and a detailed investigation into the incident is going on. Fort Stewart is one of the largest military bases in the US, where a large number of soldiers are deployed. The incident of this firing has raised serious questions about the internal security arrangements of the army.
