Indore Drinking Water Tragedy: The issue of people falling ill due to drinking contaminated water in Bhagirathpura area of ​​Indore has become more serious. Many people admitted to different hospitals after complaining of diarrhea and vomiting have died. Expressing deep grief over the incident, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav described it as extremely tragic and announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased. He also assured that the government will bear the entire cost of treatment of all the patients admitted in the hospital. Advice to drink only boiled water

About 15 thousand people live in the area where this accident happened. Due to the supply of contaminated water, new patients kept appearing throughout the day, including women and children. The health department set up medical camps in the area and examined people, while the Indore Municipal Corporation team conducted a cleanliness drive and distributed chlorine tablets to the people. The administration has clearly advised people to drink only boiled water. Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Madhav Prasad Hasani said that the admitted patients had complained of vomiting and diarrhea after drinking contaminated water. Water samples have been taken from the area and sent for testing, the report of which is expected within 48 hours. Local people say that people fell ill only after drinking the water supplied from the municipal taps. Taking the matter seriously, the Chief Minister has instructed the local administration to provide immediate and better treatment to all the patients.

The Municipal Corporation team prepared a map of the water pipeline in Bhagirathpura and started investigation, in which it was confirmed that the water was contaminated near the main line. Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dilip Kumar Yadav said that the dirty water from a new toilet built near the police check post was going into a pit instead of the septic tank. This pit was just above the water supply line, where a joint was also present in the pipeline, due to which the dirt got mixed into the water. To control the situation, the Municipal Corporation has decided to flush the pipeline for the next two days and has advised people not to use tap water.

Dr. Rajneesh Kumar, AIIMS Gorakhpur explains that “Contaminated water contains bacteria, viruses and parasites, which directly attack the intestines. This causes frequent loose diarrhea, which leads to severe deficiency of water and salt in the body, it can also be fatal in children and elderly people.” He further explains that the toxins present in dirty water damage the inner lining of the stomach, causing nausea, vomiting and severe stomach cramps. Many times the patient is not in a condition to eat or drink anything.
