Pahalgam Terror Attack Update: A few days before the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, intelligence agencies feared targeting tourists. The intelligence agency had expressed apprehension about the safety of tourists staying in hotels located in the foothills of the Jabarwan range, especially under the outskirts of Srinagar.

Officials who are aware of the case gave this information on Saturday (May 03, 2025). This increased security in these areas and top police officers were deployed in Srinagar to monitor the search operation in Dachigam, Nishat and surrounding areas. In October last year, the terrorist attacks (seven people including a doctor were killed) paid attention to these areas and the security forces increased the patrol.

This area is located on the other side of the Jabarwan range above the city of Srinagar. Apart from the two -week campaign, security forces carried out a broad search operation on the outskirts of Srinagar on the basis of intelligence, but these efforts did not get any success and the campaign was closed on 22 April but on April 22 itself, the terrorists targeted tourists in Pahalgam region and killed 26 people.

There were information that the terrorists wanted to carry out such nefarious plans during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to flag off the first train from Katra to Srinagar earlier last month. Officials said that Pakistan is definitely not happy with this railway link, which aims to connect the Kashmir Valley to the rest of the country.

However, he said that the Prime Minister’s visit (which was earlier scheduled on April 19) was postponed due to adverse weather forecasting. The officials made it clear that new dates are expected to be announced soon for the inauguration. Officials said that the government and non-government elements sitting across the border never want international attention to the powerful image of the first train and hence they would have planned to fade the event with such barbaric killings.

Terrorists got mixed up with tourists

Regarding the Pahalgam attack, the officials said that the thing that is coming out is that two local terrorists had already got mixed up with the tourists and as soon as the first bullet fired, they collected tourists in a ‘camp for a meal’, where two other terrorists of Pakistan origin allegedly shot and killed 26 of them.

Sources said that the purpose of the attack was to create fear among the citizens and possibly to promote a ventilative attack against Kashmiris in other parts of the country. He said that prompt action was taken after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah spoke to the top officials sitting in New Delhi, after which the state governments were instructed to ensure the safety of Kashmiri people in their respective states.

Officials have also informed about the worrying tendencies seen in the way of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, under which the recovery of advanced weapons like M-S-Series Rifle, sniper rifle and armor-ridiculous bullets has increased from encounter sites. These advanced weapons are suspected that they are part of the weapons and ammunition left of NATO soldiers in Afghanistan.

The authorities mentioned the case of former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who warning only on the arrival of tourists as a symbol of peace in Jammu and Kashmir, who presented the arrival of tourists in the past as a sign of general status. Shortly after this statement, in May 2006, four tourists were killed and six others were injured in an attack by terrorists on a bus reaching Mughal Garden with tourists from Gujarat in Srinagar in 2006.

Recently, on the trend of bombing the houses during the anti-terrorism campaign, officials said that the request of the elected government of Jammu and Kashmir has been banned.
