International Yoga Day 2025: International Yoga Day, which is celebrated every year on 21 June, has become a global movement from an ancient Indian practice. The credit goes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foresight and the untiring efforts of Patanjali Yogpeeth. This initiative started in the year 2014 has added millions of people worldwide through yoga for physical, mental and spiritual welfare. Under the leadership of Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev, Patanjali has played an important role in making this movement wider, so that yoga reached door-to-door.
In 2014, Narendra Modi proposed the initiative of International Yoga Day during his address at the United Nations General Assembly, which emphasized the overall benefits of yoga. With the support of 177 countries, the United Nations declared 21 June as International Yoga Day. This date, which coincides with summer solstice, holds spiritual significance in many cultures and symbolizes light and unity. The festival, held for the first time in 2015, saw unprecedented participation in cities like New York, Paris and Beijing, which laid the foundation of the global movement.
Patanjali played an important role in global initiative
Patanjali Yogpeeth has played an important role in this global initiative. By organizing more than one lakh yoga camps around the world, Patanjali transported yoga to various communities. In a historic event at Rajpath in Delhi in 2015, 35 thousand 985 people did yoga together, which set two Guinness World Records for the largest yoga session and 84 countries. These efforts demonstrated the universal appeal of yoga and the commitment of Patanjali.
Thousands of people are adopting yoga in other countries also
Apart from the events, Patanjali’s Ayurvedic products and scientific approach to yoga increased its credibility. From Japan to America, Patanjali’s workshops and training programs integrated yoga in daily life, which addresses issues like stress, diabetes and women’s health. The Patanjali Japan Foundation in Japan along with the Indian Embassy brought yoga to more than 10,000 people, in which yoga was associated with local practices such as Zen meditation.
Yoga became a universal practice of peace and unity
The theme of the year 2025 underlines the role in the personal and planetary welfare of “one earth, a health”, yoga. Online and offline yoga sessions of Patanjali have ensured inclusion, which made yoga a means of global harmony. As the International Yoga Day enters its 11th year, Patanjali’s unwavering support inspires millions of people, making yoga a universal practice of health, peace and unity.
