What Is Intuition Thought: People working at high levels in the world of sports, business and art often say that they trust their intuition, that is, their inner voice. This intuition helps them to take quick decisions at the right moment without thinking too much. Many times this decision has to be taken in the blink of an eye, otherwise the opportunity may be lost. Let us tell you what it is and how helpful it is in changing our lives.
How does intuition work?
The most perfect example of this in the sports world is seen in baseball players. In Major League Baseball, the ball speed is more than 90 miles per hour. The batsman has only about 150 milliseconds to decide whether to play the shot or not. The ball almost disappears from sight in the last few feet and remains in the hitting zone for a very short time. In such a situation, the brain does not have time to think, only experience and intuition work there. That’s why the decisions of top players seem “natural” to us.
Every person has the potential
However, a study published in 2016 clearly says that intuition is not a special power that only record-breaking athletes or successful people have. This ability is present in every human being and it can be strengthened in the right way.
According to neuroscience, the human brain works on two types of thinking, analytical and intuitive. Max Newlon, president of BrainCo, a brain-tech company affiliated with the Harvard Innovation Lab, explains that analytical thinking is based on logic, data and planning, while intuitive thinking helps in understanding emotions, experiences and the bigger picture. For example, when deciding to buy a house, an intuitive person looks at how he or she feels about the place, while an analytical person looks at factors like budget, schools and distance.
The ability to take decisions comes from building self-confidence.
The ability to make fast and accurate intuitive decisions comes from building trust in yourself. According to Dr. Dehra Harris, Applied Performance Research Director of the Toronto Blue Jays, two things are important to develop intuition: listening to your inner voice and regularly considering the consequences of decisions. Harris explains that there are usually two voices within us. One is associated with fear and restlessness, while the other is calm and truthful. The way to recognize the difference is to see which sound gives you peace. Along with this, it is also important to review your decisions from time to time, because intuition is formed from our experience and learning.
Albert Einstein has also said that intuition is the result of previous intellectual experiences. Experts believe that regular exercise, meditation on breathing, creative activities and the habit of remaining calm even under stress make intuition stronger.
