For the remaining 9 league matches of IPL 2025, the BCCI had made a change in the playing condition, which began with the CSK vs Rajasthan Royals match on Tuesday. Under this, additional 60 minutes have been given to complete the match now. Kolkata Knight Riders wrote a letter to the BCCI, raising questions about increasing the match duration.
According to the report of ESPN Cricinfo, in the email sent to the franchise on Tuesday, the Chief Operating Officer of the IPL Hemang Amin said, “The decision to give additional minutes was taken because many matches are at risk of being affected by many matches due to early monsoon.
KKR Chief Executive Officer Venki Mysore questioned the time of the verdict and asked if the RCB vs KKR match could be amended in Bengaluru after the resumption of the IPL on 17 May, which was canceled due to rain. Mysore said in its email, “Although these mid-seas changes in the rules may be necessary under the circumstances, more stability can be expected in the way such changes to implement such changes.”
The IPL 2025 event was postponed on 8 May amidst India Pakistan tension, after which it was resumed from 17 May. The first match was RCB vs KKR in Bengaluru. To give a tribute to Virat Kohli, the fans had arrived here in the white jersey but a ball could not be bowled due to rain.
From 8.30 pm, the over started decreasing and the cut-off time was 10.56 pm, but due to continuous drizzle, the match was canceled at 10.26 pm. The teams got one point each, and became the fourth team to be out of the KKR playoff race. But if KKR won the match, it would remain in the race.
We are saddened by being out of IPL race
Mysore said that if an additional two hours were available in that match, then there could have been a possibility of 5-5 overs. He said that when the IPL 2025 resumed, it was clear that the first match of KKR vs RCB on 17 May could be interrupted due to rain in Bengaluru. Rain was forecast.
“The cancellation of this match eliminated the possibility of KKR reaching the playoffs. Such ad hoc decisions and inconsistency of implementing them are not appropriate for this level tournament. I am sure you also understand why we are sad.”
