Iran’s Ambassador to India Mohammad Fathali has described the news related to the arrest of Indian and Afghan citizens in Iran as completely false and misleading. He has appealed to the people to get information only from reliable and official sources.
This statement has come at a time when concerns have increased in India regarding the safety of Indian students studying there amid the ongoing protests in Iran. US-based organization Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) had claimed that hundreds of people have died during the protests that started on December 28.

Ambassador Fathali’s reaction
On the matter, Iranian Ambassador Fathali wrote on X (formerly Twitter), ‘The news being spread on some foreign X accounts regarding the situation in Iran is completely false. I request all concerned to obtain information only from reliable sources. Earlier it was claimed that Iranian police have arrested 10 Afghan and 6 Indian citizens along with their Iranian associates. Even before this, the Iranian government has been accusing foreign media of spreading misinformation about the internal situation of the country.
AIMSA and FAIMA statement on safety of Indian students
Meanwhile, All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) and Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) on Sunday (January 11, 2026) clarified that all Indian students studying in Iran are completely safe. Speaking to ANI, Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, Vice President of AIMSA and FAIMA Doctors Association, said, ‘All our students are safe in Iran. There is no need to panic. He said that both the organizations have received confirmation of the safety of Indian students living in different parts of Iran. Many students themselves contacted the organizations and requested to reassure their families.
Indian Embassy and local administration alert
Dr. Khan further said that the Indian Embassy and senior officials are constantly monitoring the situation. We are in constant touch with students and local administration, so that any possible risk can be dealt with in time. AIMSA and FAIMA also said that they are in constant talks. As soon as any new update is received, it will be shared immediately, so that rumors and unnecessary fear can be avoided.
