The IRCTC scam took a big turn in the Rouse Avenue Court when Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi and son Tejashwi Yadav called the allegations against him a political conspiracy. He demanded the CBI Special Court to acquit itself, saying, ‘CBI case is based on selected facts and there is no concrete evidence against them’.
Lalu family lawyer argued in Rouse Avenue Court
During the hearing in the court of special CBI Judge Vishal Gogane, Lalu family lawyer and senior advocate Maninder Singh made a strong debate. He said, ‘This whole matter is a pre -planned political conspiracy. The investigating agency has arbitrarily kept the facts in the charge sheet and an attempt is being made to trap our clients. At the same time, the CBI said, ‘They have strong evidence which shows that the tender process was arbitrarily turned in favor of a private company while being Lalu Prasad’s railway minister’.
What is the whole matter?
According to the CBI, between 2004 and 2014, Lalu Prasad, while being a railway minister, made irregularities in transferring IRCTC of Indian Railways in Puri and Ranchi to IRCTC and then leasing to Sujata Hotels Private Limited in Patna. The investigating agency claims that the tender process was changed under the plan already fixed so that the deal was given to the businessmen close to the Lalu family. In this case, Lalu Prasad in this case, besides his wife Rabri Devi and Tejashwi Yadav, the then senior IRCTC officer V.K. Asthana and R.K. Goyal and Sujata Hotels owners Vijay Kochhar and Vinay Kochhar have also been accused.
Lalu family said- the matter is inspired by politics
Lalu Prasad said in the court through his lawyer that we did not do any corruption. This case has been made only to harass us. If the CBI has any concrete evidence, then they should present in the court. Rabri Devi and Tejashwi Yadav also said that the whole matter is inspired by politics and there is no truth in it.
Next hearing on 21 April
The court fixed the next hearing of the case on 21 April after hearing a partial debate. Special CBI Judge Vishal Gogane said, ‘The arguments given by the accused party have been partially heard. This will be further debated in the next hearing of the case. Now everyone’s eyes are on the hearing of April 21, where it will be decided whether the Lalu family will get relief or the matter will move forward.
