Premananda Maharaj on gutkha: In Hindu religion, worship and religious rituals are considered very sacred deeds. In such a situation, many people keep things like gutkha, paan or tobacco in their mouth while performing puja or chanting mantras.
A devotee asked Saint Premanand Maharaj of Shri Radha Hit Keli Kunj Ashram located in Vrindavan, ‘Some people with me eat gutkha and recite Ramayana, even when I refuse, they say, it is not considered inappropriate in the scriptures. Is this the right thing?
It is appropriate to recite God’s character after consuming Gutkha.
On this question of the devotee, Maharaj Ji gave a clear and precise answer and said that it is prohibited to sing and recite Bhagwat characters while eating gutkha, tobacco or any kind of pan masala.
If you have a habit, then instead offer paan to Thakur ji, which does not contain any kind of paan masala. Instead, if instead of adding cardamom, cloves, fennel, sugar candy or Gulkand, they put it in the mouth and recite Bhagwat Charitra, then it will not be considered wrong.
Premanand Maharaj requested the people
Maharaj further said that, if you pray to God after eating gutkha and tobacco then it is bad, an insult to the scriptures and devoid of dignity. By doing this you become a participant in sin.
While requesting the people, Premanand Maharaj said that you people should not take any kind of intoxicant while listening or reciting Bhagwat Katha, listening or reciting Ramcharit Manas or circumambulating Vrindavan or circumambulating Giriraj Ji. If you do such work while drunk, it is certain that you will suffer loss instead of profit.
