Pakistan’s Chief of Defense Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir has been awarded the King Abdulaziz Medal (Excellent Class), Saudi Arabia’s highest honour. Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud gave this honour.
According to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), he was honored at a program organized at the Saudi Defense Ministry in Riyadh on Sunday (December 21, 2025). A welcome ceremony was organized for him here. Asim Munir was also congratulated for his appointment as Chief of Defense Forces.
He also had a meeting with the Prince, in which both talked about military cooperation, strategic coordination, geographical challenges and security issues. According to ISPR, in accordance with the royal decree of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the King Abdulaziz Medal of Utkrishna category (Excellent Class) was given to Asim Munir. ISPR says this is the highest Saudi honor given to Asim Munir for his distinguished military service, leadership and his role in establishing defense cooperation, strategic coordination and institutional relations between the two countries.
On receiving the honour, Asim Munir said that it is a symbol of the unbreakable relations between the two countries. He also stressed that Pakistan will continue its support to Saudi Arabia for its security, stability and prosperity.
Asim Munir’s power has been increased in Pakistan, first he was made Field Marshal and now this month by making the 27th amendment in the Pakistani Constitution, he was appointed the country’s first Chief of Defense Forces and Chief of Army Staff. His tenure on both the posts will be for five years. Along with this, he has also got the command of nuclear weapons, that is, he has become the most powerful person in the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also received this honor from Saudi Arabia. He was given the King Abdulazizi (Special Class) in 2016, which is the highest honor given by Saudi to a non-Muslim.
