India is talking to the International Energy Agency (IEA) and Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). India is talking to USA to take insurance of ships. According to BBC report, in January, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Puri, while giving information in the Rajya Sabha, had said that India has so much crude oil in caves, refineries and storage facilities in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka that India’s domestic demands can be met for 74 days. News agency ANI quoted officials as saying that crude oil reserves can last for 25 days.
40 percent supply of LNG from Qatar
India fulfills 40 percent supply of about 27 million tonnes of LNG from Qatar. According to the information given by the Union Ministry, ‘India is the world’s third largest importer of petroleum products, fourth largest refiner and fifth largest exporter. Not only this, it was said that amidst the tension in the Middle East, India has sufficient reserves of major petroleum products including crude oil, petrol, diesel and aviation turbine fuel.
