Is there discussion now on giving jobs to 75 percent firefighters? Army issued a big statement

The Indian Army rejected a report published in The Indian Express on 23 October 2025, saying that the information given in it is completely imaginary and wrong.
The report claimed that there is a proposal on the table of the Army Chiefs to increase the Agniveer retention rate from 25% to 75%. The Army termed this as completely false and said that publishing such unauthorized details is extremely irresponsible.

Army clarification
The Army said in the statement that the agenda and discussions mentioned in the report are not part of the Army Commanders Conference. The conference is a closed-door and confidential forum and it is not appropriate to share unauthorized information. The Army clarified that most of the agenda points, especially regarding increasing Agniveer retention, are wrong. The Army advised the media to do cautious and responsible reporting and said verification from authorized sources is necessary before publishing any information.

What is Agniveer Yojana?
The Agniveer program is part of the Agneepath Recruitment Scheme 2022, which aims to reform the military recruitment system. Under this scheme, youth aged 17.5 to 21 years join the Army, Navy or Air Force for four years of service. After completing service, only 25% are placed on permanent posts, based on merit, performance and organizational needs. The remaining soldiers enter civilian life with a financial package and skill certificate. The objective of the plan is to make the armed forces more agile, youthful and cost-efficient.

It is noteworthy that the Indian Express in its report had said in the Army that the Army Commanders’ Conference is starting from Thursday in Jaisalmer. In this, there is a proposal to increase the retention rate of Agniveer from the current 25 percent to 75 percent. This means that earlier 25 out of 100 Agniveers would have been taken into the army, but now 75 out of 100 Agniveers will get jobs.
