Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on West Bengal tour, has given a big statement regarding Siliguri Corridor. He said on Saturday that the strategically important Siliguri corridor belongs to India and no one will be allowed to threaten or tamper with it. Siliguri Corridor is commonly called ‘Chicken Neck’.
Addressing a meeting of Bharatiya Janata Party workers in Siliguri, Amit Shah said that some people in Delhi had raised slogans that they would cut the ‘chicken neck’, this narrow strip of land connecting the mainland of India to the north-eastern states.

According to PTI, the Union Home Minister said, ‘Some people in Delhi raised slogans that they will cut this ‘chicken neck’. Hey brother, how do you cut it? Is this your father’s land? This is India’s land. No one can lay hands on it. He said that Delhi Police has arrested those who raised such slogans. Shah alleged that leaders of the opposition ‘India’ alliance had tried to ensure his release.

The Home Minister claimed, ‘Delhi Police put him in jail. The leaders of ‘India’ alliance made every possible effort to get him released. Their MPs even approached the Supreme Court to advocate on their behalf, but in the end the truth prevailed. The Supreme Court also rejected his bail plea.
Sharjeel Imam gave provocative speech regarding chicken neck
Sharjeel Imam, who is doing PhD from JNU, had reportedly said, ‘If we had lakhs of organized people with us, we could have separated India and the North-East forever. If not forever, they could have been separated at least for a month. It is our responsibility to separate Assam. Assam and India should separate. Stop all supplies going from here to there and we can do this because chicken necks are in the hands of Muslims.
What is Siliguri Corridor?
‘Chicken Neck’ is officially known as the Siliguri Corridor. It is a narrow stretch of land in North Bengal, about 20-22 kilometers wide and about 60 kilometers long, which connects the rest of India with its North-East states. It is considered an important and sensitive area from both security and strategic point of view.
