Who will open for Team India in T20 World Cup 2026? There is a war between Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan for this sequence. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav told GeoHotstar that the decision on who will get the opening between Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan will be taken on 7 February. On this day, Team India will start its T20 World Cup campaign, where it will have to face USA. Suryakumar Yadav clearly said that only when the playing eleven will be declared on 7th February, it will be known who will get the responsibility of opening in Team India.
Whose stats are better?
Talking about Ishan Kishan, he has returned to Team India after almost two years. In the T20 series against New Zealand, he batted in 4 innings and scored 215 runs at an excellent average of 53.75. In this series, one century and one half-century also came from his bat. In the last T20 match played in Thiruvananthapuram, he played a century of 103 runs in 43 balls.
On the other hand, Sanju Samson had scored 3 centuries within five innings in the year 2024. But after that his performance as an opener has been very poor. From January 2025 till now, Samson has batted in 11 innings as an opener, in which he has not scored a single fifty. In these 11 innings he has been able to score only 134 runs. He could score only 46 runs in 5 innings against New Zealand.
