The building of an Islamic school in Indonesia has collapsed. According to AP report, at least 65 students are feared buried in the debris. Officials said that on Monday (September 29, 2025) under construction, dozens of students fell on the namaz, killing a student, injured dozens and many others were buried in debris. The age of these students is mostly told between 12 and 17 years.
After the building collapsed, there was an atmosphere of chaos in the area. Parents and family members gathered at school campus and hospitals and started praying for safe return of children. According to the notice board installed on the command post, 65 students have not been detected so far. Many families wept bitterly after seeing their child’s name in the missing list.
Struggle to deliver oxygen and water
Rescuers, police and soldiers campaigned overnight and so far eight injured students have been taken out. Rescue teams are engaged in delivering oxygen cylinders and water bottles to the students buried in the debris so that they can live alive. However, the rescue operation is very challenging as heavy slabs of concrete and unstable parts of the collapsed building can fall at any time. This is the reason that the use of heavy machines is limited. Search and rescue officer Nanang Sigit said, “We are hesitant to use the machine, because this can lead to more collapse and students’ lives may be in danger.”
Pain and wait of the afflicted families
After the accident, the families of the students are eagerly waiting in the school premises and hospitals. A mother wept and said, O God, my son is still buried, please help. After the incident, the local administration has ordered an inquiry. Experts say that such buildings often lack construction standards and lack of maintenance.
