Israel’s ground action in Beit Jinn, a rural area of Damascus, has put the entire area in panic. According to Syrian state media, at least 13 civilians were killed in this latest incursion, including two small children. More than 25 people have been injured.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry has reacted strongly to the Beit Jinn incident and termed it a war crime. Government agency SANA informed that many bodies were sent to Al-Salam Hospital in Golan, while Israeli drones are continuously hovering in the sky. Relief teams are also not being allowed to enter the village as the army is attacking any movement.
Local people claim
Speaking to international media, villagers said that Beit Jinn has always been an area of ordinary farmers and herders. People say that there is no presence of Hezbollah or any other armed group here. Because of this, the Israeli infiltration that took place in the dark of night was very shocking for everyone.
Israel’s clarification
The Israeli army confirmed that six of its soldiers were injured in the operation in Beit Jinn, three of whom were reported to be in serious condition. The army said those considered a threat were killed or detained. Israeli media claims that during the operation the Israeli unit was surrounded by local fighters, after which helicopters, missiles and heavy artillery were used to evacuate the soldiers.

Iyad Daher, a civilian admitted to a hospital in Damascus, said that he was sleeping when suddenly he heard gunshots. When he came out, he saw Israeli soldiers and tanks standing all around. According to him, as soon as the army withdrew, firing started and the entire village was filled with smoke.

In the past year, Israel’s military presence in southern Syria and the Golan border has become more active than ever before. Reports say that Israeli forces are now openly entering the Syrian border and many civilians are being captured and taken to Israel.
