Income tax return: The date of filing intestated tax returns is coming closer. 31 July is the last date to file ITR. By the way, you can file returns even after this date, but you will have to pay a penalty or pay interest on tax. Filing ITR is the legal responsibility of every citizen, but it has many other benefits, so it is necessary to fill it carefully. Before filing ITR, do not forget to check the Form 26AS and Annual Information Statement (AIS), otherwise your refund may be stuck.
Form 26AS
Form 26AS is your annual tax statement, which has complete details of tax paid. It is linked to your PAN number, so you can remove it by visiting the Income Tax Department website.
Form 26AS also contains information about TDS deduction, your deposited advance tax, self assessment tax, TCS and refund issued by Income Tax Department. In this, the name of the tax deduct person/institution is also mentioned in the amount of tax, etc.
Apart from this, details of heavy transactions are also seen in the form such as payment of more than 50 thousand life insurance premium, more than 20 thousand health insurance premium payment, more than 1,00,000 educational fees or donation payment, payment of more than 20,000 property tax etc.
While filing the return, you should have a match with TDS amount and TDS present in 26 AS. Due to a slight difference in this, you can come under the circle of questions of Income Tax Department. If the details shown in 26As make your return match, then the Income Tax Department processes it quickly and you make it easier to get the refund quickly.
