Since the meeting of Trump and Putin in Alaska, possibilities are being searched regarding the end of the continuous war in Ukraine. UK President Volodimir Jailonsky will attend peace talks with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday (18 August 2025). European leaders will also attend the meeting to be held on Ukraine’s future decision.
European countries will attend White House meeting
European Commission chief Yursula von dera leyen as well as German Chancellor Frederick Merge, French President Emmanuel Macro and NATO General Secretary Mark Rute, Bitraine’s PM Kir Stmper, Italy’s PM Georgia Meloni will be with Jailonsky at the meeting. Frederick Merge and Emmanuel Macro will preside over the meeting on behalf of the European Union, which aims to bring countries together to protect the peace agreement in Ukraine. According to the German government, this meeting will mainly discuss security guarantee, regional issues and the ongoing support to Ukraine against Russia’s aggression.
Ukraine will not give Russia land
After a meeting with Putin, Trump has abandoned the ceasefire demand. He believes that under the immediate peace agreement, good decisions can also be taken from the ceasefire. According to Trump, if Jailonsky hands over the entire area of Donbas to Russia, peace can be restored immediately. Jailonsky has refused to give land to Russia and European countries also supported him in it. Ukrainian officials said that we cannot agree on any agreement to give land to Russia.
Pressure to end Ukraine War on Trump
US President Donald Trump had said in his election campaign that after becoming President, he would end the Russia-Ukraine war in a month. However, even after many attempts, Trump failed to do so. Several times he talked about banning Russia and then called Putin in Alaska for a meeting. Although there was no deal between the two leaders, but in many reports it was claimed that Trump’s conditions have been placed in front of Putin regarding peace.
According to The New York Times report, Trump bluntly told European leaders that if Jailonski hands over the entire area of Donbas to Russia, even those areas which are not in the possession of Russian soldiers, then there can be immediate peace in the area. This was strongly opposed by European leaders including Jailonsky. The purpose of European leaders to attend this meeting is that Jailonski should not be pressurized for any deal.
