Jamia Millia Islamia, a New Delhi -based Jamia Millia Islamia, has achieved a major educational achievement. The Department of Educational Studies – DES has received a major research project of Rs 1.38 crore from the Indian Council of Social Sciences Research (ICSSR). This project is based on Empowering Tea Tribes of Assam Through Digital and Non-Digital Skill Development Programmes: A longitudinal study.
What is the purpose of research?
The purpose of this research project is to measure and empower the social and economic development of Tea Tribes working in the tea gardens of Assam through alternative opportunities for digital education, skill training and livelihood. This project is not only an academic study, but it is also an attempt to improve the life of the neglected and disadvantaged community.
This will benefit from the project
The main objective of this research is to empower the tea tribes of Assam through digital and non-digital skill development programs. The scope of research will be widespread and many social aspects such as access to digital literacy, its effects will be measured. Apart from this, from vocational training to livelihood opportunities will be provided. At the same time, employment prospects for women and youth will also be searched.
Major aspects of research
In this study, both qualitative and quantitative data will be used, so that the result is strong at both practical and policy levels. Apart from this, their real needs will be understood through direct dialogue, field visits, interviews, and focus group discussions. Also, the report will be prepared on the basis of the data collected, which can prove to be helpful in the policy making of the state and central government.

Jamia Milia Islamia Vice Chancellor Professor Mazhar Asif said that this project is not just an effort to empower tea tribes, but it shows Jamia’s commitment to Northeast India. We want society to benefit from academic study. At the same time, Registrar Professor Mahatab Alam Rizvi said that this research keeps the needs of an unseen and neglected community at the center.
