Jamia Millia Islamia, one of the leading universities of the country, has suffered a setback this time in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026. Last year i.e. in 2025, Jamia had made a good jump as compared to 2024, but in this year’s ranking, there has been a decline in the position of the university. This is the second consecutive time that Jamia’s position on a reputed ranking platform has gone down. Earlier in the NIRF Ranking 2025 also, the position of the institute was found weak.
According to the latest results of QS Asia University Rankings, this time Jamia’s rank has declined by a few places. Last year, Jamia had made a strong performance and made its place among the top 200 institutions of Asia, but this time its position slipped. However, till now Vice Chancellor Prof. No statement has come out from Mazhar Asif or any other officer.
Big success was achieved in 2025
Jamia has been ranked 197th in the 2026 ranking. The year 2025 was a proud year for Jamia. At that time the university had jumped several notches compared to 2024. In the QS Asia University Rankings 2025, Jamia performed brilliantly and achieved 188th rank. That means, in 2024, Jamia was ranked 206th and in 2025, the university jumped 18 places. Then it was considered commendable in the field of education, research and diversity.
The university had increased research collaboration with many international institutions and started new scholarship schemes for students. But the decline in the ranking of 2026 showed how important is continuous improvement and competition in the field of education. The ranking agency said that the universities were evaluated on several parameters. Of which teaching quality, international reputation, research impact, faculty-student ratio and international student numbers are prominent.
Decline was also recorded in NIRF
This is not the first time that Jamia’s ranking has declined. In the NIRF 2025 rankings released a few months ago, Jamia had to fall two places compared to the last time. Even then the administration had called it a part of the reform process and had said that Jamia would regain its old pace in the coming years.
