It has been 5 years since Article 370 from the Constitution, but the opposition is still standing against it. Recently, the National Conference (NC) President and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has given a big statement related to this.

He has said that the central government should give back state status to Jammu and Kashmir in time, otherwise New Delhi will have to regret its decisions. He clearly stated that unilateral decisions taken after August 2019 have increased the distance instead of awakening people.

A sharp attack in meeting party workers

Abdullah met the delegation led by Anantnag West MLA Abdul Majeed Bhat Larami. According to PTI, the workers informed them about organizational issues and public relations campaigns. During this time, the leaders also discussed the current situation and the concerns of the public.

Abdullah said during this conversation that the Center has repeatedly lost opportunities to win the trust of the people. Safety -based approaches have always dominated efforts to create confidence. He said that with the huge participation of the people in the 2024 assembly elections, it is clear that the trust of the people is established in the Indian Constitution and democracy, but not restoring the status of the state is contrary to that belief.

Strict questions on the decisions of August 2019

Abdullah also questioned the government regarding the removal of Section 370 in August 2019 and converting the state into a union territory. He said that at that time it was claimed that Jammu and Kashmir would be brought equal to the rest of the country, but the truth is that people here are being seen as an exception. He said that the delay in restoring state status is weakening the democratic belief of the people.

He said that this is not only the issue of politics but is a question of justice and equality. New Delhi should fulfill the promises made to the public and should return the status of the state immediately. He emphasized that the fulfillment of promises will strengthen the trust of the public.

Repeat NC’s commitment

The National Conference President clearly said that his party will continue to struggle for the rights and welfare of the people through peaceful and democratic ways. He said that along with restoring state status, the party will continuously raise voice for other constitutional guarantees.

Abdullah warned that if the Center does not take steps in time, New Delhi will have to regret its decisions one day. He said, “It is ahead of politics. It is a matter of justice, equality and fulfilling the promises made to the public.”
