Jammu and Kashmir Police has formed a seven-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the recent deadly attack on former Chief Minister and National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah during a wedding ceremony. Officials gave this information on Saturday (March 14).

SIT formed under the leadership of Jammu, Samba, Kathua Range

Inspector General of Police Bhim Sen Tooti, ​​keeping in mind the ‘seriousness and sensitivity’ of the case, ordered the formation of a SIT under the leadership of Deputy Inspector General of Police, Jammu, Samba, Kathua Range. On Wednesday night, when Abdullah was leaving a wedding ceremony organized at a banquet hall in Greater Kailash area, the accused allegedly started shooting at him from behind at close range, in which he narrowly escaped.

After this, accused Kamal Singh (63) was controlled and arrested on the spot. The revolver used in the crime was recovered from him.

Attempt to open fire while leaving wedding ceremony

The Inspector General of Police, in his order issued on March 12, said, ‘On March 11, at around 10 pm, when the person being protected (Farooq Abdullah) was leaving the wedding venue, a person showed a revolver and tried to shoot at him from close range. However, this attempt was not successful due to the prompt action of the policemen deployed for their security. In this regard, Gangyal police station of Jammu has registered a case against the accused under section 109 and section 3/25 of BNS.

Police shared a copy of this order on Saturday evening. This SIT formed by Inspector General of Police Bhim Sen Tooti includes Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Sharma, Superintendent of Police, Headquarters (Jammu) Irshad Hussain Rather, Deputy Superintendent of Police Arvind Kumar Sambyal and Inspectors Sarup Singh, Paramjeet Singh, Sanjeev Chib and Shariq Majeed.
