Jammu kashmir tourism: About two months after the death of 26 people in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam in South Kashmir, the tourism business is gradually becoming normal and after the Eid holidays, locals and some people from Punjab have started coming to the valley of shepherds.
On the third day of Eid, a large number of Kashmiri reached Pahalgam from other parts of the valley, due to which people associated with tourism trade here are very happy. This tourist destination is 100 km from Srinagar.
Nabil Bhat, a young youth from Srinagar, said, “We have been going to Pahalgam every year, whether there is a crowd of tourists or not. There was no different this year. However, this time we were more hospitalized.”
The local people of Bhat Pahalgam were referring to the “special attention” paid to tourists and very low prices of most services.
After the terrorist attack on tourists on 22 April in Basaron Valley, six kilometers from here, tourism activities came to an end in most parts of Kashmir. 26 people were killed in this attack, including 25 tourists and one local service providers.
Alina Jaan, a resident of the Civil Lines area of Srinagar, said, ‘This time the service providers are more friendly towards the local people. It was not the case in previous years when a large number of tourists used to come here.
LG Manoj Sinha’s decision to open a park in Pahalgam
Most of the local tourists are happy that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has decided to open a park in Pahalgam. He said that this will attract more people at this place.
Mohammad Ishaq, the owner of a ‘tourist hut’, said, ‘There is no better advertisement than oral publicity. People from different parts of Kashmir started coming here immediately after Eid, but there was not much increase in the number, because they had no place to sit due to the closure of all the parks. We hope that it will change now, because the Lieutenant Governor has announced on Saturday that the parks will be opened again.
Ishaq said that in the last 10 days some tourists from other states have reached Pahalgam. He said that most of them were tourists from Punjab and were disappointed, because they could not enjoy the beauty of Pahalgam, for which it is famous.
Mohammad Ramadan, a mule, said that his community hopes that the increasing number of tourists will continue in Pahalgam.
He said, ‘The main time of our earnings has passed …. But we hope that more local people (Kashmiri) will come to us in the next few months before the start of winter. This may compensate for some damage.
