Jammu kashmir politics: In an important political development in Jammu and Kashmir, two senior leaders who are also former ministers joined the Indian Nation Congress on Friday (27 June). Both leaders again joined the party in the presence of Taj Mohiuddin and Ghulam Mohammad Saruri Jammu and Kashmir Congress President and other party leaders. After the formation of Ghulam Nabi Azad’s Democratic Progressive Azad Party, both Taj Mohiuddin and Ghulam Mohammad Saruri broke away from the Congress. However, he stayed there for some time and contested as an independent candidate in the 2024 assembly elections.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Syed Naseer Hussain, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra and senior party leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir and others joined the party in Srinagar in the presence of others.

Tariq Hamid Karra, president of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, said that the Congress will be strengthened both internal and exterior with the re-involvement of former ministers Taj Mohiuddin and Ghulam Mohammad Saruri. Many people who left Congress and joined other parties are still in touch with us.
‘Wanted to join the party only in August 2024’
A senior party leader said, “The two leaders had announced their decision on re -joining the Congress party in August 2024, but the party’s senior leadership, including Rahul Gandhi, had banned the decision, who asked the local leadership to wait.”
The return came after other prominent political personalities Chaudhary Gujlar Khatana and Muhammad Amin Bhatt returning to the Congress. This has increased the party’s possibilities in South Kashmir, where the National Conference (NC) has won 10 out of 16 seats in the 2024 elections.
‘Some people are already in the pipeline’
Karra said that many people who have either left Congress or have joined other parties are still in touch to join us. Some people are already in the pipeline under this process and many people are in contact with us and are expected to join their party in future.
‘Leaving Congress was a mistake’
He said, “The involvement of Taj Sahib or Saruri Sahib does not mean that they have been involved in person. They have a strong attendance and when we organize programs in their areas you will see their influence on their own. After leaving the Congress, they formed another organization and today they openly admitted that Congress was a mistake and he also apologized for it.” He also said that he has a proper procedure and process for evaluation of leaders.
