Talking on Kapil Sibal’s YouTube channel Dil to Kapil Sibal, Javed Akhtar spoke on expensive prices of film tickets. Why is the reflection of what the general public think is not in Bollywood today? On this question, the veteran writer said- ‘Because the ticket is of 700 and 800 rupees. There was a time and still is there today, there are hospitals of rich, there are hospitals of poor. The rich have hotels, poor hotels.
‘The cinema of the poor is not left’
Javed Akhtar further said- ‘What is this time and multiplexes? The rich have become cinema and the cinema of the poor. The cinema of the poor is not left, how many theater do you have in India? There is around 14,000 theater. Out of which 803 are in Southern States. Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, how many left now? If you removed only eight, then six left. The larger number of six is Western Coast Pay Maharashtra, Gujarat. After that, those who are left come in the Hindi belt.
‘Samosa is also sold in multiplexes 200 rupees’
Writer says- ‘Understand there is a theater above a quarter and a half lakh 12 lakh men. There is a cinema house above 11 lakh 12 lakh men. Not like the USA where there is 1 lakh theater. Where there is a population of 35-36 crore. Not like China where there is above 500 theater. Our Hindi belt consists of a four 5000 theater. So that is not the same for the outlet film. On the other side, multiplexes have come, samosa is also sold in multiplexes and 200 rupees. Javed is a ticket of 500 to 700 rupees.
‘Even if you go to nuclear family, 3 and a half thousand expenses’
