Rambabu singh: The Bihar government on Wednesday (May 14, 2025) clarified that Rambabu Singh, a resident of Siwan, who was killed while on duty in Jammu and Kashmir, was not in BSF but an army personnel and his death would not be considered as ‘martyred in struggle’. Earlier, the Chief Minister’s Office had described Singh as a “BSF jawan” and announced a grant of Rs 50 lakh to his family.

The seriously injured Singh died last week and was described as a ‘martyr’. A senior officer said on the condition of keeping the name confidential, “We received a letter from the army last night stating that Rambabu Singh was in the army. Also, his death cannot be called ‘martyred in struggle’ because he was killed in a road accident.”

Guard of Honor not given at the airport

The body of Rambabu Singh was brought to Patna Airport on Wednesday morning, where he was paid floral tributes. However, he was not given ‘Guard of Honor’ which is usually given to “martyrs”. Leader of the opposition was present at Tejashwi Yadav Airport.

The former Deputy Chief Minister said in a conversation with reporters, “Yesterday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had said in a post on ‘X’ that Ram Babu Singh was a BSF jawan. It is now revealed that he was in the army. Such confusion at the Chief Minister’s level is regrettable. Hopefully, it is expected that Chief Minister Rambabu Singh’s family will fulfill his promise to give a grasp of Rs 50 lakh to Rambabu Singh’s family. He was young and married a few months ago.

He said, “No one informed me about bringing Singh’s body to be brought. Please tell that the last rites of Rambabu Singh have been performed in Vasilpur village of Siwan with state honors on Wednesday.
