During the interim government of Mohammad Yunus in Bangladesh, steps towards making the country an Islamic nation have intensified. The largest Islamic party Jamaat-e-Islami is now trying to implement Sharia law in the country. According to a report, this organization, supported by Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI, has started imposing jazia on Hindus and other religious minorities. This decision is being considered a sign of converting Bangladesh’s secular structure into Islamic rule. The special thing is that the Yunus government is silent on this whole matter.
Jaziya recovery started from 1 August
According to an exclusive report by Blitz Editor Salahuddin Shoaib Chaudhary, Jamaat-e-Islami has started collecting Jizia from Hindus and non-Muslims since 1 August 2025. Earlier on July 25, Jamaat chief Dr. Shafiqur Rahman had publicly announced that non-Muslims would have to pay this tax, like Muslims give zakat.
Rehman’s disputed statement
In a gathering, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that if all communities in Bangladesh want equal rights, then Hindus and non-Muslims will have to be given to Jiziya. He claimed that this is true according to Sharia law. Rahman said that just as Muslims give part of their property as zakat for religious works, in the same way, non-Muslims should give jaziya.

What is the meaning of Jaziya Kar?
Jaziya is an Islamic tax, which is levied on non-Muslims. This was common in medieval Islamic rule and critics have always considered it a policy of making non-Muslims as second-class citizens. Its beginning in the present Bangladesh is considered to be a big step towards the implementation of Islamic rule by moving away from the secular principles of the country.
Disputed history of Jamaat-e-Islami
The history of Jamaat-e-Islami is associated with controversies and cruelty in Bangladesh. It supported Pakistan during the 1971 liberation struggle and was involved in the massacre of Bengali citizens along with the Pakistani Army. Even today, this organization has the support of Pakistan ISI and many Islamic-Jehadi organizations. This is the reason that concern has increased in Bangladesh about the current situation.
