This time there is a delay of four days in coming the results of JEE Main Session 1 conducted for admission to engineering courses. According to the already released schedule, the result for January 2026 session was to be declared by February 12. But on the night of 11 February, the National Testing Agency (NTA) released new information and said that now the result will be declared on 16 February 2026.
This delay is being done keeping in mind the interest of the students. The agency has made it clear that injustice is not done to any student, hence every objection is being investigated in depth.
Investigation of objections on answer key
NTA had sought objections from students on the provisional answer key till 6th February. A large number of students challenged the answers to some questions. All these questions have been sent to a committee of experts.
According to sources, there are at least 6 questions which can be dropped. However, the final decision will be taken only after investigation by experts. The agency says that every question and its answer is being re-examined.
What does drop question mean?
If a question contains an error that cannot be corrected, such as incorrect data, typographical error or language error, it is dropped. Drop question means that that question will be removed from the paper.
In such a situation, all the students who appeared for the exam in that shift are given full marks for that question, whether they have solved it or not. This does not harm any student.
priority to students’ interest
NTA says that the only purpose of delaying the result is that the result is completely correct and fair. The agency does not want any hasty decision to be taken which will affect the future of the students.
Every year lakhs of students appear in this examination and this examination decides the direction of their career. Therefore, this time also special attention is being paid to transparency and accuracy.
More than 13 lakh students took the exam
In the year 2026, 13,63,900 students had applied for the first session of JEE Main. Out of these, more than 13 lakh students appeared in the examination. For admission to BE and B.Tech courses, this examination was conducted in ten shifts in five days.
A senior NTA official said that strict arrangements for security and surveillance were made during the examination. Every step from entry into the examination center till the end of the examination was monitored.
Trust will be built through a transparent process
This time technology was also fully utilized in the examination. Strict checking and monitoring at the centers ensured that no irregularities took place. Now the final result will be released only after checking the answer key. If a question is dropped in any shift, then all the students of that shift will get equal marks. This will maintain fairness.
Registration continues for JEE Main Session 2
The registration process for the second session of JEE Main 2026 is going on. Students can apply till 25th February. After the results of the first session, the applications for the second session are expected to increase. Generally, students who get good score in the first session do not appear in the second session. Students who appear for the exam in both the sessions, their final rank is decided on the basis of better score of both.
