Big news has come for lakhs of students of West Bengal. Due to Saraswati Puja on 23 January 2026, there was a lot of concern among students and parents regarding the examination of JEE Main 2026 (Session-1). With exams being held on puja days, students may have had to make a difficult choice between religious traditions and exams. Keeping this in mind, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has taken an important decision.
NTA has made it clear that no student living in West Bengal will be forced to appear for JEE Main 2026 examination on 23 January 2026. Candidates whose exam was scheduled on this day will be given another date to appear for the exam. This means that now students of West Bengal will not need to go to the examination center on the day of Saraswati Puja.
Actually, Saraswati Puja is not just a festival in West Bengal but an emotional festival related to students. On this day, students worship Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of learning, and seek blessings for their dreams related to studies. In such a situation, due to a big competitive examination being held on the same day, both resentment and tension were being seen among the students. Many student organizations and parents raised this issue and demanded NTA to change the date.

What did NTA say?
NTA has taken this decision after listening to the students. The agency has said that it fully respects the religious sentiments and practical difficulties of the students. For this reason, all the affected candidates of West Bengal will be given a chance to take the exam on some other day from the scheduled dates of JEE Main 2026 Session-1.
