Mahendra Prasad, member of Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission JSERC, said that the revised rate will be considered applicable from May 1, 2025. The rural electricity rate has been increased by 40 paise and 20 paise in urban rate. In the summer season, there is an atmosphere of disappointment among the consumers of the state to increase in electricity rates.
He said, “The fee hike is not involved in the increase in 200 units of free electricity per month. Another official said that about 46 lakh domestic consumers in the state are availing 200 units of free electricity per family per month. The 40.02 percent increase of Jharkhand Electricity Distribution Corporation Limited (JBVNL) was proposed, but the Commission approved an increase of 6.34 percent.
JSERC has ordered Jharkhand Electricity Distribution Corporation Limited that the amount of fixed charge should not be taken for the period in which consumers will not have electricity supply. Consumers will automatically get the benefit of adjustment through billing software.
3 percent discount in energy charge on installing smart meters
JSERC has ordered consumers to ensure 23 hours of power supply to consumers for recovery of full fixed charge in the electricity bill and 21 hours to LT category consumers. Consumers adopting prepaid smart meters will get 3 percent discount in energy charge.
