John Abraham further said- ‘ABC rules do not allow the removal of dogs, but make provisions to sterilize and vaccinate and leave their earlier place. Where the ABC program was implemented honestly, it proved to be effective. Delhi can also do this. During sterilization, dogs are vaccinated with rabies and after that the dogs become calm, their dreaded and cutting incidence decreases. Because dogs recognize their territory, they do not allow dogs without sterilization and unnecessary to enter their area.
What did the court say in its decision?
Explain that due to the bite of stray dogs, especially due to the problem of rabies due to children, the Supreme Court on Monday directed to remove all stray dogs from Delhi-NCR and keep them in shelter sites. The court has said that over time the number of shelter sites for dogs will have to be increased. The court directed Delhi officials to build a shelter for about 5,000 dogs within six to eight weeks.
